At Info Grove, our mission has always been to simplify the development and management of mobile applications for municipalities to improve citizen engagement. Today, we are proud to showcase one of our latest collaborations: the launch of the official mobile app for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL).
Partnering with a Historic Atlantic Gem
Located on the scenic south shore of Nova Scotia, the District of Lunenburg is a region rich in maritime heritage and natural wonder. Established in 1879, the district wraps around the historic towns of Lunenburg and Bridgewater, serving a diverse population spread across coastal fishing villages and inland agricultural hubs. With such a vast and varied geography, the MODL team recognized the need for a centralized, digital “hub” to keep their residents connected and engaged, regardless of which corner of the district they call home.
The Collaborative Process: From Concept to App Store
The MODL team came to us with a clear goal: to make municipal information more accessible. Our team worked closely with their staff during the design phase to identify the key content to include in the app, and to design custom graphics that reflect the District’s unique brand identity.
By utilizing our Info Grove mobile app platform, we were able to help them curate a user experience that is both intuitive and powerful. We focused on creating a “one-stop shop” feel, ensuring that whether a user is looking for a council agenda or a trail map, they are only a tap away from the answer.
Inside the MODL App: Features that Matter
The resulting app is a comprehensive tool tailored to the daily needs of the MODL community. By integrating the district’s existing web resources into a mobile-first environment, the app provides:
- News & Events: The app provides easy access to the MODL news feed as well as the calendar of local events.
- Push Notifications: A critical tool for the municipality to push out emergency alerts, service disruptions, and public safety notices directly to residents’ devices.
- Waste Management Information: Residents can quickly check collection schedules, helping to streamline one of the most vital municipal services.
- Government Transparency: The app provides direct links to district maps, council meeting minutes, and the “Engage MODL” platform, encouraging civic participation.
- Recreation & Tourism: The app highlights the vibrant lifestyle available on the south shore with information about parks, trails, beaches and other recreation facilities. The app provides easy access to the MODL Recreation Guide, and registration for recreational programs.
- Privacy-First Design: In alignment with our best practices, the app is designed to respect user privacy, collecting only general usage statistics to help the District continue to improve its services.

Innovation for Every Municipality
The launch of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg app is a testament to what can be achieved when a forward-thinking government embraces mobile technology. We are honored to have played a role in bringing this project to life and look forward to seeing how it enhances the lives of those living in this beautiful part of Nova Scotia.
The MODL app is now available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
